Very recently Sketchers launched their newest product called Bobs. With every pair of shoes sold, a pair is given to a child in need. Sound familiar? look familiar? .. Not only did Sketchers copy the entire concept behind the Toms movement, but they mirrored the design and overall astetic of the brand. Being charitable because of the meaning behind it is one thing .. being charitable for marketing purposes is another.

Its not just about how you give, its why you give. The founder of Toms, Blake Mycoskie, had traveled to Argentina in which he met countless barefoot children. This powerful & authentic experience is what inspired him to do good. He and his team took a great financial risk with the business model they chose to create.

Copying the concept is not the upsetting part. Blake actually hoped to set an example for other businesses to imitate. But to mirror the whole concept so blatantly showed a lack of originality and creativity. So far from genuine, Sketchers set themselves up for ridicule.

Why Shoes?

The phone fast ( January 31 - February 6 )

Day 1: Woke up early today. I thanked God for the day, made some coffee, took a shower & brushed my teeth all before I picked up my cell phone, saw a few texts and facebook notifications and put it right back down. Then I picked up my guitar and played for a couple hours until my manager picked me up to go to the studio. After a days of work and fun in the studio I went to a karaoke bar in Burbank to meet up with some friends, sang ‘Summer Nights’ with my best friend Bree, laughed a little, danced a little & went home. I admit I picked up my phone a few more times than I should have but I wasn’t on facebook or twitter all day & I re-learned that living MY life is way more important than reading about someone else’s.

Day 2: My sisters birthday party is Saturday so I had to send out a mass text, & then proceed to respond to everyone who wrote back; so much for not texting lol. Had a few friends hit me up throughout the day that I admit I responded to so they wouldn’t take it personal or think I was ignoring them, but no extensive conversations. Had a career changing meeting in the afternoon, had some bomb food & then went back to the studio. The drives to the studio are long so in that instance I justify texting because what the hell else am I supposed to do in the car lol. I did pick take one call to give a good friend some advice, and had a short text conversation with another close friend but still no twitter or facebook! I put my phone on silent most the day but I still am in the habit of picking it up to check it, I gotta stop that! I constantly have random thoughts that are usually tweeted right away .. felt kinda good to just smile and keep them to myself. This is me & Gods life, not everything is meant to be shared with the rest of the world or my thousand & some twitter followers!

Day 3 & 4: The 3rd day of my phone fast was exactly a month after I sacrificed something kind of unheard of back in January. God didn’t tell me how long I was giving this thing up for, he just said to give it .. so I did. At this point of my life there was someone very close to me that needed it more than I did. It was my car. It felt weird at first, but I did pretty good without it. My car ended up breaking down on the person I loaned it to so it was out of commission towards the end of the month .. but on the 3rd day of my fast, EXACTLY a month after I gave it up, my dad fixed it & I was able to make it out to a rehearsal in the IE! God is good, all the time. Lesson learned: having absolutely nothing but everything at the same time. Sometimes we may not have all the tangible luxuries we desire .. but being able to eat every day, having a roof over our heads, being filled with Gods love and surrounded by our friends & family are the things we need to realize are most important .. so I went to the IE, had rehearsal, hung out with some friends, laughed enough for the whole week & in all made some pretty silly memories that I was content with keeping exclusive instead of broadcasting them via internet! & the next morning I vacuumed my car! I seem to have a new found appreciation for Salsa Verde (that’s my cars name). I came back to LA spent some Q.T with both my sisters and then went to my show and did what I do best! I sang my little heart out, chilled with some friends, made some new ones & then came home to do the other thing I do best, sleep. Felt good to live in the moment & enjoy my night without worrying about a text conversation or what everyone else is doing via twitter. I did have to pull out my phone to send a couple emails for Bullets & Bows but that’s business so it doesn’t count as a distraction . . . appreciate, live, love, laugh, enjoy.

Day 5: Got called in for an early session today. Didn’t charge my phone last night so it was on the last bar by noon, but I surprisingly didn’t care. Took my sis to get supplies for her bday party tomorrow, went & hung out with a dear friend .. had some margaritas and some chips&salsa, had a few laughs, made a couple toasts and then me & my sis stepped out on the town & hit Venice beach, one of our favorite places in the world ! This was definitely an enjoyable day .. and once again I was happy to keep all the laughs and randomness to myself. Exclusiveness makes memories all the more memorable.

Day 6: Day 6 was definitely an interesting one. I don’t usually drink much but it was my sisters bday party so we got pretty turnt. O_x all in all , despite the things that didn’t go over so well, we had a good day/night .. it was looooong, but fun. Until I started drunk dialing folks I kept my phone in my pocket all day. There was so much life to enjoy right in front of me that there was no need to be on my phone. There were plenty of things I could have tweeted .. the people who were there can second that lol . but that’s the beauty of it, if you weren’t there than you missed out !

Day 7: #thehangover .This day was spent in bed, in & out of sleep until about 8pm when we all headed out to Riverside for our show out there. I didn’t even have the energy to be on my phone if I wanted to ! &&this is why Danni doesn’t drink !! lol hearing stories of things I said & did the night before . . those are always interesting stories. The show in Riverside went well then we came home & I slept my little heart out.

Technology fast re-cap: All in all this week was a good week to do this fast because there was a lot going on that I normally would broadcast via twitter or facebook &/or text and bbm people about. Throughout the week I re-learned that our lives are worth cherishing in the moment. We allow ourselves to be so distracted by the outside world & staying connected that we unknowingly disconnect ourselves from our friends & family and the moments in life that are most important. We can be in a room full of people and yet everyone will be on their phones texting or tweeting. Our generation has lost their sense of appreciation for each other and has become too dependent on technology to stimulate their minds. I’m not pointing fingers because I am just as guilty. We have so much potential to change lives and be a light for other people’s darkness, but being buried in our blackberry & iphones could hinder us from being just that. Your life is authentic, treat it like so. Appreciate yourself, your friends, your family and the memories you make. Live, laugh, love & enjoy ;]

December 10th."Meeting of the Minds"fashion show review:

December 10, 2010 - 10:30pm : After weeks of preparation, hard earned money sweat & tears put into designs from every designer, hours of hair/makeup& styling models ; were all standing backstage taking each breath with excitement & anticipation for all our hard work to finally be showcased for all who came to support our movement that evening. Looking around at all my fellow designers and how much weve all grown as individuals in this fashion industry I was in awe. At this point everything was going perfectly and the joy that filled the room is one that cannot be described in words. . .

December 10, 2010 - 11:00pm : SHOWTIME ! the music starts .. the stunning miss Star Brown prepares herself to kick off the show in her BLOWD attire while everyone cheers her on waiting for their turn to rock the amazing runway ahead, completely unaware of what was to come next. What was supposed to be a 2 min time slot turned into 3 min , which then turned into 5 min of a model on the runway changing into another look which resulted in the cancellation of the remainder of the show.

Opinion : Never mind that the first designer went over his allotted time, now one of his models is changing clothes on the runway of one of the nicest upscale clubs in LA. This show was about showcasing EACH designer and the progress we've made. Regardless of if your line opened the show, was 5th in line or was dead last, there was a criteria to be followed. Apparently the first designer didn't feel like it applied to them and ruined it for the rest of us. Now, I know it wasnt intentional to have the show shut down, but there were some choices made that were not the smartest. Everyone makes mistakes, yes. But now the issue is the arrogance after the fact. Nobody else got to fullfill their evening yet you insist on posting the pictures of your models on the runway everyone else looked foreward to walking on. This particular person knows I have nothing but love for him and his designs, but he crossed the line & now upset everyone. He should have stepped his game up and made better decisions point blank. I hope we all learned from this experience. At this point we can only move on. Forgive & forget .

The Day of the Child is Children Uniting Nations' flagship even to bring awareness to the plight of at-risk and foster children. 1,000 foster children from all over Los Angeles County come to enjoy a day of amusement park rides, booths, food, games, arts and crafts, live entertainment, and celebrity hosts. This year, Day of the Child will have a 'green' theme including hands-on discovery centers to learn about the environment and an eco-tour where they will meet many of the exotic animals that STAR ECO Station has rescued.

At the end of the day, each child receives a gift package filled with clothing, toys, blankets, school supplies, toiletries, and more. We need your support to make this amazing event happen and to create a magical day that our foster children will remember for the rest of their lives! Volunteers will of coarse get food and receive a t-shirt.

Last week one of my best friends came to visit from Atlanta, Georgia. We ran around Hollywood all day shopping, eating, talking to & meeting the most random people. Everyone meet Indigo Charlie! .. not only does she have an intriguing and mesmerizing voice, she is also a Los Angeles FIDM student. Completely busy with her aspiring fashion career in addition to being a personal assistant for Solange Knowels, Miss Charlie isnt waisting any time! As an indie musician using all her spare time to work on her first EP album to shop to the major record labels Indigo has her work cut out for her. She has been compared to Lykke Li and I'm sure takes a lot of inspiration from Solange in creating her unique sound. As a fellow singer/songwriter and fashionista I am excited for her and the career she has ahead of her. I wish her many blessings & I shall see her at the top !

(i performed this piece at the poetry lounge, but i wanted to post it for those who weren't in attendance)

L O V E thy Enemies

Its so much easier to hate you than it is to l o v e you and I'm sure a few others could agree.

I'm not sure which side of your brain was encouraging your thought process, but I wish the other side would have put up a fight so you could join us in the recognition that the way you talk to and treat people just isn't right.

Your words provoke spite.

You burn bridges overnight.

All bark & no bite.

How do you sleep okay at night knowing the fruits of your flight?

But I'm just 'white so I gotta be right'.

Right?

I never said I was better or above you, but if I was you'd be the only one to blame.

That pedestal you think I'm on is more or less of a platform of accomplishment.

It took me 23 beautifully disastrous years,

a million and one joyful & painful tears,

owning up to all my faults & fears,

and sitting patiently in the passenger seat while God shifted gears.

He helped me build this platform.

And then, he painted a hologram of his face .. followed by a finishing gloss of love

so when the sun hit it in the right place, he & l o v e would shine through me

see, that's what I always prayed for.

But I allowed you to get to close.

I welcomed you with open arms,

trusted you would do no harm,

so I neglected to set the alarm ..

naivety got the best of me.

As I obliviously fixated on the sky and continued to pray,

you began to chip away.

First at the glossy finish

then at the picture of him.

Every layer you penetrated at that point subconsciously drained me a little more than the layer before.

By the time I looked down from my fixation on the heavens and witnessed the destruction beneath me it was too late.

You had already emptied out my well of d i g n i t y & filled it with hate.

When God saw his piece of art being blatantly vandalized he quickly took action.

Picked you up out of the mess you created and placed you outside the wall he built with the snap of a finger.

He left me with the key to lock you out,

and you with a window barely big enough to peek in & see

the reconstruction.

With a few inspiring situations,

motivating conversations,

minus your false stipulations,

in addition to the blue prints my father layed before me ..

the reconstruction was a great success.

Every layer of my platform is now twice as sturdy,

three times as dense.

God changed the hologram of his face to a 3-D portrait,

added infinite layers of loves glossy finish,

and then

lit a fire inside all of this so no matter where the sun was

he & l o v e would inevitably shine through me.

.. Now I'm not sure what it felt like to be on the other side of that wall looking in.

And peeking through that window definitely didn't allow you to understand what it felt like on the inside.

It sucked.

But now, it's beyond amazing.

The weather is always pleasing and instead of oxygen we breath l o v e.

I am always more than content

and never less than blessed.

I recently unlocked the door to that wall God built me & gave the key back to him.

Anyone & everyone is welcome inside,

including you.

I've come a long way to be able to say that & I am happy that I could do so.

If I could simplify this parable I would simply say this..

It was so much easier to hate you than it was to l o v e you.

But hate no longer dwells here so forgiveness & I love yous are all that's left.

Not to say the situation with you was stopping my success,

but it was definitely hindering me from being blessed.

So I forgive you

and I l o v e you

and wish you nothing but the best.

Take what you will from this

& humbly ask your God for the rest.

Just some random m i l k insight .. read if you will. i cant force knowledge, just provide it [;

Our whole lives we are taught that 'milk does a body good'; that if we drink enough of it we will have strong bones and stay healthy. Ever ask yourself why we as humans are the ONLY species to drink the milk of another animal & continue to consume it as grown adults? Cows dont even drink cow milk! Just like humans at 22-24months of age, cows at 6-7 months of age no longer need their mothers milk. If you wouldnt drink the milk from your own lactating mother why would you drink it from a cows? Just doesnt seem right .. Plus,with all the hormones in the milk, including IGF-1 (insulin-like growth facror 1), no wonder our society is suffering from obesity. Newborns are supposed to grow quickly; Cow’s milk is meant to turn a 200lb calf in to a 2,000lb cow. Do you wanna be a 2,000lb cow? .. didnt think so. smh

Milk is pasteurized at 162 degrees f. --> This numerical gap doesnt seem to bother the USD considering they allow 750,000 somatic cells, aka puss .. and 20,000 live bacteria per ONE cubic centimeter of milk before they decide to take it off the market. Quite the allowance if you ask me. smh

*Milk provides protein! .. yah, 80% of that protein is called casein. Casein is a polymer used to make plastics and/or a glue to make fancy furniture or hold your precious beer bottle labels in place. yummm!

*& last but CERTAiNLY NOT LEAST 87% of milk is water. lol thats expensive water dontcha think ?!

So theres this new lounge downtown at Lost Souls Cafe off 4th street on Monday nights. I had the privlage of being invited out last week to perform a few songs. The vibe there is super d o p e. Its intimate and real artsy [artsy: adj. - a term i hate but still use from time to time] lol .. the food & drinks are tre magnifique. Its open mic so anyone can come & sign up. Ill be there every week as a feature so come out & hang wif mee ! --> heres a little tid bit of last monday night ..

Landed back in LA from a trip to Vegas for a show last month and a whole group of people behind me were whispering and asking each other if I was La Roux. They were so sure of their star sighting too !! It's hilarious yet annoying to me that this woman & I have similar fashion sense, similar names, both have short funky hair & are both in the music industry. Anyone who knows me knows I would wear this exact outfit on a Monday afternoon just for the hell of it. lol .. Now, if we made similar music there would be a problem. Nothing I could rly do about that problem at the moment but blog about it, but there would definitely be one! (hehe) .. For now, all I can do is wish her the best & keep being me.

1. Is it the one you see walking down Melrose Ave in her $75 20inch weave and her lipgloss poppin knowin damn well she should be out looking for a job to move out of her mama's house ? THAS A BAAAD BiTCH! .. Is it the one with the jeans that are two sizes too tight and clothing cut to show as much of her body possible that quit school to showcase her assets in the hottest music videos? THAS A BAAAD BiTCH! .. Is it the one that wakes up an hour early to alot herself the time to paint on her MAC make-up to cover her insecurities for the day? THAS A BAAAD BiTCH! Is it the one that you see out at the club every monday, tuesday, thursday & friday night? Shes such the socialite but not so much the responsible one.

2.Is it the w o m a n that wakes up just in time to make herself pretty & presentable for work because she was up so late working the day before ? Is it that w o m a n thats driving in her middle class car on the way to her job that allows her to pay for that car & the rent on her apartment? Is it the w o m a n that expresses her fashion sense & sexiness through regular clothing, enjoys the little things in life & prays to God to deal with her insecurities ?

Its sad that a r e a l woman gets zero recognition these days.

Soooo, I've officially moved to the beautiful disaster of downtown LA . It's amazingly imperfect & I love every second of it. From the crazy downtown locals & smoggy air to the traffic filled streets & diligent workers. It may be a mess to some people, but to me its h o m e. Everything about this new chapter of life is God sent. Our new apartment is beyond amazing and everything I need is walking distance. With my fashion line 'Bullets & Bows' getting ready to go into manufacturing and my music career picking up, the convenience level of this location is exceeding anything I've ever imagined. I cant express in words how beyond content I am with life; m o t i v a t e d . inspired . enthused . stimulated .

-->The one thing that does sadden my heart is the amount of homeless people that occupy DTLA, and the more fortunate people who just ignore them like they are simply dirt on the sidewalk. If you choose not to give them any spare change that is your choice, but blaitently ignoring them is just rude. They are human just like the rest of us. Us as a societly have lost all sense of compassion. Yes, I believe that some of these people could work harder & potentially get out of the streets but who are we to hold that against them without knowing their life story. I could go a lot deeper into this topic but I'll simply leave it at that.

just a few words of encouragement: you are above your circumstances. don't disqualify yourself. trust in God without doubt & he will shed his grace upon you. Don't be afraid to make changes in your life to progress. Sometimes you have to let go of certain things to gain others. Surround yourself with l o v e and you will live happily. Don't magnify the problem, magnify the problem solver. God works in crazy ways. Nothing is coincidence. Evertything happens for a reason. Timing is everything & patience is key.

A New Chapter;

So, after the past thirty-one days of my spiritual fast I've come back to the conclusion that my God is amazing. Who woulda known that in just one month I could of grown so much as an individual. I haven't been tweeting as much & haven't posted any blogs because my beautiful life has had me too distracted. I feel so spiritually rejuvenated. All my prayers are being answered and I am truly inspired to turn the page & start this new chapter of my life. I've been forgiven & have forgiven those who have done me any harm. r e f r e s h e d. There are so many moves to be made, and I am making every one of them with God's hands all in the mix! Im thankful for all the people God is placing in my life. Im blessed to be surrounded by g e n u i n e love & support. My heart is so full of Gods g r a c e & the love of my friends and family that there is no room for anything else; so in turn, everything I do is surrounded by l o v e. It feels amazing. Im extra excited to go get coffee at midnight tonight !! Tomorrow Im going somewhere real nice & treating myself to a fancy grilled cheese, a glass of mascoto & some overly priced dessert .. why? Because God says I can !!

So I made it past the half way point of my fast. Getting closer to God has to be the best feeling. I go to work smiling, I come home smiling, my dog chews up my blackberry & yet I'm still smiling. Ppl may ask questions & look at me crazy or even attempt to talk down upon my relationship with God; but ppl will automatically judge what they don't understand. this isn't for them to understand. I'm not fasting for you, this is between me n the man upstairs! God & I got some major stuff in the works right now. I'm so excited for this future of mine

Im pretty convinced that our generation has managed to manifest the most annoying trends known to man kind. We make certain foods a trend for Gods sake! . I feel like there are subliminal messages in our music, like in that movie "Josie & the Pussycats", tellin yawll what to do or something.

Pink Berry hit LA as if frozen yogurt were a new invention & now everyone wants to eat frozen yogurt for breakfast lunch & dinner. If you dont eat Pink Berry your forced to feel like an outcast, so even though that place is nasty you go spend your hard earned money there just to fit in. And then theres yogurtland; Pink Berrys evil twin. This place tastes a lot better in my opinion, AND their open late for all the rich vampires in LA who cant go without spending money or getting their frozen yogurt fix for more than a few hours. Personally, I prefer Golden Spoon , the place I've been getting frozen yogurt at back home since I was in the 3RD GRADE. . . You simple minded people didnt even know frozen yogurt existed a year ago, & now it has become crucial for your survival. It might as well have its own section in the food triangle right next to red velvet cupcakes & four lokos . So you think your Christopher Columbus now cuz you discovered a red velvety cake & an energy drink with alcohol ?! .. Welp, just like good 'ol Columbus you didnt discover SH** !

.. & if one more person tells me their 'artsy' i might yell back and possible offend them. All these 'artsy' people runnin around LA in their army boots & 'vintage' clothes are diluting the word and the lifestyle itself. Stop trying to be something your not by following others, JUST BE Y O U ! .. If your an artist in any kind of way then so be it. If not, go find your own hobbys and let the true artists create the art. If you really like to wear boots like I do than thats fine too. If you just have an eclectic mindset or style thats fine too, but stop saying your artsy because you have a couple tattoos and decided to go to the poetry lounge last Tuesday night.
